Challenge
4BT Med Vingar was a digital integration and visibility project for two organizations working with people with disabilities and their members.
The project had to be clearly distinct from the background organizations so that the joint project would appear as a separate entity and it would be easier to build its own communication and funding base. At the same time, the aim was to create a safe way for participants to learn new technology (smartphones, photography, and Facebook) and make their own voices heard.
Once participants have the tools and confidence, they can tell their own stories—on their own terms.
Solution: what UUDLY did
1) Project identity and project website
We created a unique look for the project to distinguish it from its parent organizations and ensure consistent communication. This included conceptualization, logo and graphic design, as well as the design and implementation of the project website.
2) Workshops and practical support for participants
We designed and facilitated workshops that created a safe learning environment for using new technology: taking photos and using Facebook. In the next phase, we encouraged outdoor activities and photography in different environments (e.g., festivals and walking trails). We also provided technical support and practical help with social media.
3) Visibility: own content, exhibition, and documentary
Once the participants were confident with smartphones and Facebook, they began documenting their own encounters and sharing content. The project culminated in a photo exhibition and an open vernissage. We also produced a video and a documentary, Take the Step, which premiered at the vernissage.
Results
The project produced concrete communication outputs and gave participants the skills to produce and share content with confidence. As a result, the organizations now have access to new content and a reusable media bank.
Volunteers +40%
The number of new volunteer applications rose by 40% compared to the previous year.
Your own social media content and media library
The project’s Facebook page received a wealth of original content produced by participants. Photos were automatically backed up to Google Photos, and the best images were curated for future use by the organizations.
In addition: a month-long exhibition at the downtown gallery (open vernissage) and the documentary “Take the Step,” which was screened at the vernissage.
Customer feedback
4BT Med Vingar gave our members the opportunity to show who they really were. There was no censoring or polishing, and disabled and non-disabled people could interact together as equals on level terms. The boundaries between the project members were erased, and I think this showed in the project. It was not a catered project but an experience that we all shared together. This was possible due to John and Jenn’s hands-on approach. They were involved in every stage and made sure that everyone could be included no matter the level of disability. Working with Jenn and John also gave me a creative outlet for my own ideas, and they were very good at extracting my vision and concretizing it in a creative and refreshing way.
